Being nostalgic is good for your health

World at One

Available for over a year

Why do some people go back to the same seaside resort that they have been visiting for years? That is the question being asked by academics researching the therapeutic benefits of nostalgia. Sean Gammon from the Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise tells Radio 4's World at One that by returning to the same seaside resort people "become very nostalgic and reminisce about previous holidays". He said research has shown that being nostalgic is good for your health, as we "tap into the person we were and often when we were younger we were more positive about the future".
