Just under five million people in Britain, or 15% of all those in work, are self-employed. In some places the figure is significantly higher. And you may have seen evidence of it in your local coffee shop, if it鈥檚 frequented by the so-called 鈥榗office workers鈥 setting up their laptops and settling down. Not all are self-employed of course, but the combination of coffee and free WiFi is compelling. Except that some cafes are losing patience and switching off the link to the internet. Douglas Fraser, 麻豆社 Scotland鈥檚 Business and Economy Editor, took up the onerous challenge of investigating 鈥榗office鈥 life. First broadcast on From Our Home Correspondent, 17 September 2017.
