Button: I told Frank Williams I wasn't ready for F1

Sportsworld

Available for over a year

Jenson Button's Formula One career was nearly over before it started. Back in 1999 Button recieved a phone call from team owner Frank Williams who was looking to fill the seat left by Alex Zanardi. Williams asked Button if he was ready for F1. He replied, 'no'. "I was 19, and I was always the kind of kid that would always tell the truth," Button said. "I put the phone down and I called my dad and he said 'are you serious?' So I called Frank back and said 'I think I'm ready now' - five minutes later!"
