How far we’re absorbed by a film can be monitored by pulse rate, brain activity, and so on. We may think we can feel cold or rain for example, but can we also sniff the roses, catch the whiff of gun smoke, and otherwise generally smell what’s going on onscreen too? Francine Stock meets perfume expert and blogger Dariush Alavi who believes we can smell a movie. First broadcast on The Film Programme, 12 November 2017.
