Are wines with award stickers actually any better?

Radio 4 in Four

Available for over a year

When you buy wine in a supermarket do you go for the bottles with the award stickers on them? If you do, you’ll know there are loads and loads of them. Two huge commercial wine tests award the stickers – Decanter and the International Wine Challenge. Decanter give stickers to 70% of the wines that are entered. The International Wine Challenge doesn’t publish its figures but it’s thought the numbers are roughly the same. Helen McGill has been one of the judges for the International Wine Challenge for 15 years. Winifred Robinson asks her about what the judging criteria is for these award-winning wines. First broadcast on You & Yours, 30 November 2017.
