In Britain - a country with an established Church - the museums are free but you have to pay to get into many cathedrals. In secular France, it鈥檚 the other way round. Or has been until now. The person appointed to look after French heritage sites has proposed entrance fees as a means of solving the problems of their repairs and upkeep.
