Shoshanah Sievers: Silence

麻豆社 Proms

Available for over a year

Shoshanah Sievers, born 2001, is a violinist and composer. In 2016, Shoshanah was selected from hundreds of entrants as one of the winners in the Lower Junior category of the annual 麻豆社 Proms Inspire Competition, and as part of her prize, was commissioned to write a piece for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain鈥檚 Fellowship Octet. Shoshanah鈥檚 piece, Silence, was inspired by the work and research of Created Out of Mind - an interdisciplinary team of scientists, visual artists, musicians, broadcasters, clinicians and carers working to explore, challenge and shape perceptions and understanding of dementias through science and the creative arts. In Silence, Shoshanah wanted to explore the loss of identity caused by dementias. Sound imagery is used throughout to convey the present life or the absence of the self; 'silence' portraying when the self has gone. Silence was performed by the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain鈥檚 Fellowship Octet and broadcast live as part of 麻豆社 Radio 3鈥檚 residency at Wellcome Collection, from 13 - 15 October 2017.
