Gin has overtaken vodka and whiskey as the best-selling spirit in the UK. As the market has boomed, so have the prices. You can pay £50 for a bottle of gin. What you pay depends on a lot of different things: how many bottles are in a batch; the design of the bottle; the marketing; and the process of manufacturing it – the way the gin is made. Gin can be distilled from scratch, or it can be made by cold compounding – that is adding flavours to a basic gin. Distilling gin is much more expensive.
