The world's oldest tattooed woman

The Newsroom

Available for over a year

Researchers have found body art on a 5000 year old Egyptian female mummy. Her male compatriot also has a bull inked into his skin - meaning he also sets a record for having the world's oldest figurative tattoo. The discovery pushes back evidence for the practice in Africa by 1,000 years. One of the anthropologists involved in the study is Daniel Antoine -- he told the Â鶹Éç's Alex Ritson how the team discovered the images: (Photo: Tattoos on the Predynastic female mummy from Gebelein.
