Senegal won its independence from France back in 1960, but El Hadji Diouf says their real independence came after beating the French in their opening game of the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan & South Korea. Diouf was part of the team who reached the quarter-finals that year and he says the 31st May 2002, when they recorded that famous win over France, is now Senegal's birthday.
