麻豆社 Minute: On the end of Turkey's state of emergency

麻豆社 Minute

Available for over a year

The two-year state of emergency imposed by Turkey's government has ended. The powers were introduced following a failed attempt to overthrow the government in 2016, during which nearly 250 people died. Since then, 80,000 people have been arrested, with many alleged to be supporters of the exiled Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, who was accused by the government of plotting the overthrow. The 麻豆社's Turkey correspondent Mark Lowen assesses the lifting of restrictions by President Erdogan. (Photo: People in Turkey protest against the country's state of emergency.
