'They are digging graves to bury their relatives'

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

The conflict between government troops and Ambazonia separatists is forcing many women to take on a role usually left to men - that is digging graves to bury the dead. With most of the men having fled from their communities, women are left to search for corpses of their children and community members for burials. It is a taboo that has now been broken. This report by Randy Joe Sa'ah. (Photo: Residents from the Western Region in Cameroon arrive at the bus terminal in Buea following renewed clashed in the Anglophone region, AFP.)
