A new micro-device could be the answer for those suffering with untreatable epilepsy. Bio-electrician George Malliaras of the University of Cambridge, UK, describes how a flexible probe, which is implanted into the brain, can detect the electrical activity of a seizure and pump a drug exactly where needed to stop the neurones firing. His hope is that the device can be developed to predict and prevent seizures before they even begin. (Image: Cerebral cortical neuron via a digital light microscope, Credit: Getty Images.)
