The US mid-term elections were claimed as a victory by both sides. The Democrats won control of the House of Representatives but the Republicans tightened their grip on the Senate. Commentators expect the Democrats to ramp up the pressure on the President with a series of investigations, including a probe into his personal tax affairs.
