US report: ‘Climate change is no longer a distant issue’

Weekend

Available for over a year

Scientists say climate change will cost the United States hundreds of billions of dollars by the end of the century if it remains unchecked, and that those on low incomes will be among the hardest hit. The effects will include everything from lower crop yields because of extreme heat to a wider spread of deadly mosquito-borne diseases. Katharine Heyhoe is a climate scientist and professor of political science at Texas Tech University, and one of the authors of the report. (Picture: a firefighter in California in 2008.
