First baby born from deceased donor's uterus

World Update

Available for over a year

In a medical first, a healthy baby girl has been born in Brazil using a womb transplanted from a dead donor. This has been attempted before, but this is the first time that the procedure has resulted in a live birth. The team who carried out the procedure have said that this could bring hope of fertility to women with a number of conditions, including those who have had a hysterectomy for medical reasons. Andrew Shennan is a professor of obstretrics at King's College London. (Photo: A newly born baby, Credit: Jeff Overs/Â鶹Éç)
