Gucci withdraws jumper for 'resembling blackface'

Outside Source

Available for over a year

Luxury fashion brand Gucci has withdrawn a jumper from sale after criticism that it "resembled blackface". The black jumper covered the lower half of the face and featured a red cut-out around the mouth. Gucci has apologised for any offence caused, and said it was committed to increasing diversity. Barrett Holmes Pitner is an African-American journalist in the United States. He grew up in the state of Georgia, and says it wasn't unusual to see people wearing blackface at parties.
