Fighting social injustice with art

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Nike Davies Okundaye has made a name for herself as an artist, but also as a teacher running workshops on Nigerian textiles and colourful paintings. On the wave of the success of her work, she opened art centres and galleries in Abuja and Lagos, encouraging artists to engage with Nigeria's rich cultural heritage. Her Center for Arts and Culture in Lagos contains over 25000 pieces of work, and some of them directly reference social problems faced by the country, including the Chibok Girl and women inclusion. The Â鶹Éç Bola Mosuro asks Nike what motivates her long-lasting commitment to Nigerian art and how she thinks art can make a difference.
