Romanian Women Suffering from "Italy Syndrome"

Weekend

Available for over a year

Research suggests Romanian women who travel to Italy to work in the growing care industry, helping the elderly, who often suffer from dementia, are themselves developing severe mental health problems like depression as a result of the work they do. There is an unofficial term for it: "Italy Syndrome". The Italian anthropologist Donatella Cozzi has spent a number of years studying "Italy Syndrome".
