It's being reported security forces in Sudan used tear gas and live ammunition overnight to try to break up a mass demonstration in the capital Khartoum. Thousands of protesters have been staging a sit-in to demand the resignation of President Omar al Bashir. Eyewitnesses said that naval and air force troops intervened to protect the protesters, and the state security personnel were forced to withdraw. Some people were reportedly allowed to shelter inside a military compound. Newsday's James Copnall has been speaking to one of the protesters who continued the protest through the night and says she will continue until the president resigns.
