The signing of a power-sharing deal between Sudan's military junta and the pro-democracy Forces of Freedom and Change has been delayed. The deal, which was mediated by Ethiopia under the African Union auspices, announces the formation of a hybrid state council – with a transition period that should not exceed three years and three months. But how has announcement of the deal been received and what should Sudan expect from it? Alex de Waal, director of the World Peace Foundation, speaks with Focus on Africa’s Sudan expert Mohanad Hashim, about the challenges facing the deal and the prominent role of the deputy head of the military council, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagolo of the Rapid Support Forces.
