Picture the scene. You go to a football match, ready to cheer your team on 鈥 only to hear the worst kind of homophobic abuse being sung from the stands. Not only that, but it鈥檚 coming from your own supporters as well. That鈥檚 what happened with Plymouth Argyle this weekend 鈥 as the founder of the club鈥檚 LGBT fan group was forced to publicly condemn numerous incidents of homophobic chanting made by Argyle supporters during Saturday鈥檚 loss at Northampton. Argyle officials say they can鈥檛 comment on the specifics of the incident in Northampton 鈥 but that they will work with the authorities to eradicate discriminatory behaviour at matches. They鈥檙e also encouraging supporters to report all inappropriate comments and chanting 鈥 and say that they will continue, as a club, to have a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination.
