Zambian musician Pilato defends his hard-hitting lyrics

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Zambian musician Fumba Chama, also known as ‘Pilato' has been releasing music since 2011. He usually raps in Bemba or English and his hard-hitting lyrics have often got him into trouble. In 2018 he was forced to leave the country after one of his songs, Koswe Mumpoto (rat in the pot), was interpreted as criticising President Edgar Lungu and the government. But he says creatives from whatever front should be able to debate issues that affect ordinary people. (Image: Fumba Chama, also known as ‘Pilato'. Credit: Â鶹Éç)
