Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

News of racism in football has grabbed the headlines in recent weeks. A number of black players plying their trade in Europe have been targeted, sparking a continent-wide debate in search of a solution. Racial slurs hurled, banana skins thrown and monkey chants they have endured it all. It's a problem that has blighted the game for decades. The scourge has now taken a different form and shape and football authorities are struggling to cope. Most of the abuse is now taking place on social media platforms. Over the last few months, the Â鶹Éç's Stanley Kwenda has been hearing the experiences of some current and former African football stars.
