The Italian Girl in Algiers (Overture)

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

In typical Rossini fashion, The Italian Girl in Algiers overture was written in less than a month. It is something of a tribute to Haydn’s Surprise Symphony, with light pizzicato passages interrupted by huge orchestral hits. It, and the opera it is taken from, is still frequently performed by orchestras and bands around the world. Composer: Gioachino Rossini Performers: Â鶹Éç National Orchestra of Wales Conductor: Richard Hickox Recording date: 09 March 2002 Date of broadcast: 14 March 2002
