5 Ruckert-Lieder

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

The Rückert Lieder do not represent a unified cycle, but were individually conceived and may be performed in any order. Each one of these ethereal songs uses completely different musical material, orchestral scoring, and structure. One of the songs, Liebst du um Schönheit, was written as a gift to Mahler's wife after an argument and he hid the manuscript in her score of Wagner’s Die Walküre, which she often played through for pleasure. Being such a private expression of his love, Liebst du um Schönheit is the only song from the Rückert-Lieder which Mahler did not later orchestrate. Composer: Gustav Mahler Performer: Catriona Morison (Mezzo) Performer: Yuka Beppu (Piano) Recording date: 08 October 2018 Date of broadcast: 08 October 2018
