Most of Scriabin鈥檚 mazurkas are short, lasting about two or three minutes each. The graceful No. 1, has a grand, stately central section. No. 3 is a melancholy, stormy piece that shows the influence of Chopin. No. 4 is full of contradictions, moving from tranquillity to playfulness in the space of a few bars. No. 6 is bright and playful. No. 9 is sombre in mood, but moves to an agitated, expressive manner. Composer: Alexander Scriabin Performer: Benjamin Grosvenor (Piano) Recording date: 31 October 2012 Date of broadcast: 01 January 2013
