The Nature Conservancy an American organisation purchased $21m worth of Seychelles debt held by European nations including the UK and France. In return, Seychelles agreed to legislation to protect thirty per cent of its oceans – an area almost double the size of Great Britain. Could this be a model for other ocean nations?
