How Africans can spend less to access the internet

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Africa is home to the most expensive mobile data plans in the world. According to research by the Alliance for Affordable Internet, people in the Democratic Republic of Congo pay the highest prices per Gigabyte. The Competition Commission in South Africa has also called for the two main operators in the country to slash prices of their data bundles. With internet access becoming increasingly a vital commodity, how can Africans spend less to get online? We ask Eleanor Sarpong, from the World Wide Web Foundation and the Alliance 4 Affordable Internet (Photo: An African migrant using a cellular phone to photograph a demonstration in Tel Aviv Israel.
