Menstruation: sharing the experiences of women in film

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

We find out what's been showing at the recently held Global Health Film Festival in London. One of the films that premiered deals with a subject more than half the world's population experiences, but people tend to be too squeamish to talk about it. It's about menstruation and records the experiences of 7 women ranging in age from 17 to 84, from different walks of life. They experience cyclones in Mozambique, homelessness in Johannesburg, HIV positivity in Eswatini, and coping in refugee camps in South Sudan are just some of the stories told by them. Lauren Anders Brown directed the film. Focus radio's Veronique Edwards asked her why she made a film about something so natural, yet so little spoken about.
