Malawi dreadlock legal success

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

In Malawi, a High Court has issued an interim order - which applies to schools countrywide - saying that any pupils excluded as a consequence of having dreadlocks should be allowed back to class while it is hearing the case. Malawian government policy requires all children to cut their hair short, but many Rastafarians grow their hair in dreadlocks. Ras Esaias is the parent who took this case to court.
