Fairbourne: The future

PM

Available for over a year

The village of Fairbourne in Wales is going to be "decommissioned" because of the threat of flooding linked to climate change and sea level rise, meaning a whole community will disappear. PM has been reporting on the anger among residents who don't know where they will go or who will pay, and how the blight of the village is affecting life there. In February 2020 the head of the Environment Agency said that the risk of flooding means some places may need to be moved out of harm's way, but the lesson of Fairbourne is that doing so will be extremely difficult. So what does the future hold? With the last piece in our series, PM's Tom Baker reports.
