Domitien Ndayizeye who led Burundi between 2003 and 2005, was succeeded by the late Pierre Nkurunziza. They had a strained relationship which was fractured even further when he was arrested in 2006 and accused of involvement in a coup plot. In 2015 he was one of the politicians to speak out after Pierre Nkurunziza stood for a controversial third term despite widespread protests. Bola Mosuro spoke to Mr. Ndayizeye earlier and asked for his reaction to the shock announcment of the death of President Nkurunziza.
