A Fortunate Man Revisited In St Briavels

Jo Durrant

Available for over a year

'A Fortunate Man' was published in 1967 and was a collaboration between novelist, art critic and broadcaster John Berger and documentary photographer Jean Mohr. It was a seminal piece of work on the GP-patient relationship and the role of a doctor in a rural community and was based in St Briavels in the Forest of Dean. There was a series of events in St Briavels in June 2018 reflecting on the book 50 years on, organised by Reading The Forest. Jo Durrant spoke to some of the residents who remember the doctor at the heart of the story as well as Roger Deeks from Reading The Forest. Other contributors: Sue Norman, Rosemary Burgess, Ivy Biddell, Robin Harris, Keith Norman and Dave Kent.
