Mozambicans flee violence in the north of the country

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

In Mozambique's northern Cabo Delgado province, Islamist militants continue to cause fear and mayhem with attacks on towns and villages. Hundreds have been killed and thousands displaced despite the Mozambican army's counter offensive and claims to have killed dozens, such as last week in Quissanga district. The attacks are causing many to flee and seek shelter after walking for days in areas like Pemba and others. Elizabeth Hinton is a medical officer with Medecins Sans Frontiers and works at an IDP camp in Pemba. (Photo: A woman stands in field where clothes are dried after washing in Metuge. Credit: MSF)
