We continue to mark Focus on Africa Radio's 60th birthday. To celebrate this milestone, we are looking back on our journey and sharing the memories of the show. This interview takes us to Liberia. Samuel Doe is president, the country is in a perpetual state of horror, and in the last few days of 1989 Charles Taylor invades the country and wages a bloody war. A few days later, on 1 January 1990, the Focus on Africa office gets a call. Former editor Robin White and Deputy Editor Elizabeth Ohene reflect on the difficult decisions that had to be made, and the thinking behind giving the rebel leader a platform.
