Christiane Gruber is Associate Professor of Islamic Art at Michigan University and the author of ‘The Praiseworthy One: The Prophet Muhammad in Islamic Texts and Images.’ She discusses paintings of the Prophet with Ernie Rea and begins by explaining that although there are no paintings of the Prophet from his lifetime, we do have descriptions of his face that date back to the 8th century.
