Hailing from West London, the honeyed vocals and brooding melodies of singer-songwriter Eleni Drake have been part of our Saturday night soundtrack for the last few weeks. Moody and intimate, Eleni鈥檚 music is anchored as much in her life-long love of indie-rock music as it is in the rich tones and soulful compositions of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Introduced to jazz at a young age by her grandfather, she soon gained an appreciation for the genre, which plays a heavy role in tracks such as 鈥楶eaches鈥 and 鈥楳elbourne Blues鈥. Growing up in Southend, Eleni moved to London aged 15 and went on to study music at university. Despite her passion for making music, it wasn鈥檛 until she self-released her debut EP in 2018 that Eleni gained the confidence to pursue a career as an artist in her own right. Now, her third EP 鈥榁anilla Sky鈥 is set for release next month, and if current single 鈥楰ing Street鈥 is anything to go by, we鈥檙e in for a treat. FFO: Phoebe Bridgers, Mathilda Homer, Joesef
