Why vaccine take-up is so high in Bangladesh

The Real Story

Available for over a year

Research suggests that only half the number of people in the US would be willing to have the Covid vaccine and "vaccine hesitancy" has been observed to be on the rise in wealthier, western countries. Dr Firdausi Qadri, Director of the Centre for Vaccine Sciences, outlines why in Bangladesh, vaccine hesitancy is almost non existent. Out of a population of 170 million people, a take-up of rate of over 95 per cent was recorded for a recent BCG vaccination initiative. She attributes high vaccine take-up to an appreciation of the benefits vaccines can bring, healthy public discussion about the risks and the constant presence of clinics. "People are so positive about vaccines because they have made a positive change in their lives".
