Fight to keep historic 'Desford' aircraft in flight and in Leicestershire

Mid-morning on 麻豆社 Radio Leicester

Available for over a year

A World War Two plane manufactured in Desford more than 65 years ago could be set for a new home in Nottingham. The Reid and Sigrist R.S.3 Desford first flew on 9 July 1945, shortly before VJ Day, but was deemed to be in an unflyable condition in 1973. After a short period at Snibston Discovery Park, Rebecca Tyers and her father took on the job of restoring it back to top condition. However Leicestershire County Council now has plans to showcase the plane at the Newark Air Museum. Rebecca and Franne Wills, the Head of Service, Communities & Wellbeing at Leicestershire County Council spoke to 麻豆社 Radio Leicester's Ben Jackson.
