Available for over a year

South Africa is now confronting a new surge in coronavirus numbers within the country. There are now nearly 922,000 cases and over 24,000 deaths. They are also seeing evidence of a new variant of coronavirus which is believed to be behind the increase. It was first discovered in the Western Cape, before it moved to the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. South African scientists say they are working with the World Health Organization to investigate this variant. Professor Tullio de Oliveira is the Laboratory Director of the KwaZulu-Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform or KRISP. He told the Â鶹Éç's Bola Mosuro more about this new variant.
