Newshour

Available for over a year

With British hospitals overwhelmed by a fast rising number of Covid-19 cases,聽the pace of vaccination is being accelerated to give as many people as possible a first dose of the vaccine. That means delaying the second dose to those who've already received a first jab. But the US government's top infectious diseases expert, Dr Anthony Fauci, says聽he doesn't agree with this plan. Dr Fauci says the US will stick to giving people second doses of the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine around 21 days after the first. The manufacturers say that's crucial to achieve the maximum level of protection. So is there a right and wrong, and does it depend on the vaccine? The 麻豆社's Lyse Doucet has been speaking to Dr Chris Smith, a virologist at Cambridge University here in the UK. Photo shows: A woman in the UK receives her first dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 jab.
