The Namibian diamond cutter who is a shining example

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

A Namibian diamond cutting firm has found it is reaping the benefits of its drive to recruit more employees with disabilities. Schachter & Namdar/Andre Messika says its diversity and inclusion approach is not only having a positive impact on staff morale and productivity, but it is also setting an example. Twenty-six year old Anna Marie Johnson was one of the first employees in a wheelchair to join the company, nine years ago. She is now a highly-skilled diamond cutter and polisher but before being taken on, she had feared there would be little prospect of a job after leaving school.
