Botswana group create 'online doctor surgery'

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Covid-19 has had a negative impact on delivery and access to health services. Lockdowns and restrictions on movement have made it more difficult for people to visit clinics or even see doctors in an emergency. In Botswana, a group of young professionals have come up with an innovative way to address such challenges. It is an online doctor-patient consultation room on a mobile or electronic device, and they have called it Doctors E-Consult. Chief Operations Officer at Doctors E-Consult, Loatile Nkala, who is based in the Botswana capital, Gaborone, explained the motivation for the app and how it works.
