Featured Artist: Poppy Ajudha

麻豆社 Introducing - London

Available for over a year

A singer-songwriter hailing from South East London, Poppy Ajudha is no stranger to the spotlight with her soulful tone and jazz-inflected melodies. Making soul/RnB/alternative sounds, Poppy has already amassed more than 15 million streams, released two critically acclaimed EP鈥檚 鈥 'FEMME' and 'Patience', been named Soul Act of the Year at the JazzFM Awards and landed herself a spot on Barack Obama鈥檚 playlist. Growing up, Poppy was always surrounded by music, with early influences ranging from reggae and soul, to rare grooves and jazz. Her father owned Paradise nightclub in New Cross, which was frequented by legends of the scene including Jools Holland and proved a big inspiration in her decision to pursue a career in music. Having written her first song at the age of 7, Poppy's music tends to focus on social movements, predominantly issues surrounding sexuality, racial identity and gender, making her lyrical content as evocative and affecting as her vocal performance. Wowing with singles such as 鈥楽trong Womxn鈥, 鈥楤lack Joy. Black Peace. Black Justice鈥 and her recent cover of Herbie Hancock鈥檚 鈥榃atermelon Man鈥 for Bluenote Re:Imagined, Poppy's debut album is one of our most hotly anticipated releases of the year - if her track record to date is anything to go by, it will be a 2021 standout. FFO: Tom Misch, Mahalia, Solange
