'We need to transform the political system to be much more inclusive'

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

As the deadlock in Somalia's political situation continues apace, women political activists are concerned that their work to increase female political representation is being jeopardised. In January the Prime Minister, Mohammed Hussein Roble agreed that 30% of parliamentary seats would be reserved for women, currently, the figure stands at 24%; and there is currently no plan for how that 30% figure will be achieved. Focus on Africa's Esau Williams has been speaking to Ruqia Botan the co-founder of LeadNOW, a grass roots women's movement. She told him how the 30% agreement came about.
