Meet the Brazilian volleyball player turned free speech champion

Sport Today

Available for over a year

Carolina Solberg became a powerful symbol of opposition to the country’s president Jair Bolsonaro and an unlikely champion of free speech after shouting ‘Bolsonaro out’ at the end of a live post match interview on Brazil's most-watched sports channel last year. Solberg’s remarks at the beach volleyball tournament in Rio de Janeiro, sparked an angry backlash with the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation, who accused her of “staining the sport.” Solberg has since been cleared and told Sport Today's Katie Smith about the moment she found her voice. Sport Today has contacted the Brazilian volleyball confederation for their comments but are yet to receive a reply.
