Nigerian NGOs issue ultimatum to President Buhari over insecurity
Focus on AfricaAvailable for over a year
A group of nearly 50 civil society organisations in Nigeria is demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari takes urgent, actionable steps to end the insecurity in the country. The group, through the non-government organisation Global Rights, produced a report that tracked mass killings over the past 12 months. It found that more than 4,000 people had been killed as a result of widespread lawlessness, including banditry, gangs, politically motivated killings, as well as falling victim to Boko Haram insurgency. Executive Director of Global Rights, Abiodun Baiyewu, told Focus on Africa's Bola Mosuro, the president must "shape up" to stop the violence or he should "ship out". Photo: Abiodun Baiyewu.
