Super League: 'Why clubs need to chase the big money'

Newshour

Available for over a year

All six Premier League teams involved in the European Super League (ESL) - Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham - have withdrawn from the competition. However, former England footballer John Barnes believes the motivation to make big money comes from fans' desire to see their teams spend big money on players, and financing that will mean clubs have to look beyond Europe and consider playing games where their international fans are - in locations such as the US and China, in order to survive. 'Fans are important, but not just the European fans, and clubs are aware of the brands being huge worldwide' Photo: Former Liverpool and England international footballer John Barnes
