Covid in India: 'Deaths significantly higher than reported'

Newshour

Available for over a year

India's Covid agony shows no signs of abating. Quite the contrary, in fact. The country has set a global record for daily infections for a fourth day in a row - 350, 000 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours - and Delhi has extended its lockdown for another week. Dr. Dhiren Shah is a consultant cardiologist at one of the state of Gujarat's busiest hospitals, the Care Institute of Medical Science (CIMS) in Ahmedabad. He tells the 麻豆社's James Coomarasamy: "Patients are unable to get the basic requirement a bed in a hospital or a supply of oxygen... because of this Covid virus which is spreading like wildfire across India." "The death rates and the number of cases are significantly higher than what is being shown on the news channel."
